ABOUT THE DESIGN:
Hamilton, Ontario Canada - The STAIRCASE THEATRE building was built in 1914 as a hydro transformer substation and for more than 80 years delivered electrical power to west Hamilton. Hugh MacLeod purchased the building in 1997 and it became The Staircase Theatre, named for its iconic cast iron spiral staircase. This building is as unique as the far reaching mediums it plays host to. From film, play, improv and stand-up comedy  to music, dance, poetry and crafts. There is something for everyone at The Staircase.

This illustration highlights the building's industrial architecture that Hamilton is known for. With its dark brick facade peppered with unique brick patterns, the building is a beacon of uniqueness planted amongst its residential neighbours. If you look closely you'll find the iconic spiral staircase peering through a window.
