Burlington, Ontario – Waterfront

A love letter to Burlington’s waterfront, this vintage-inspired illustration celebrates one of the city’s most recognizable and beloved places.

The artwork was originally created as an entry for the Burlington Mural Art Project, an initiative of the city’s public art program designed to tell local stories through the work of local artists.

The design was selected as the winning entry and transformed into a massive 40-foot-tall public art mural overlooking Burlington’s waterfront.

This print brings that piece of Burlington public art home in a much more wall-friendly size.

About the Artwork

For this illustration, I wanted to capture more than a single view of Burlington’s waterfront. I wanted to capture the layers of experiences that make this part of the city special.

Imagine sitting on a downtown patio on a warm summer afternoon. Across the street, cars slowly pass by while the trees beyond them invite you toward the lake.

Walk a little farther and the city gives way to green space. The waterfront park becomes a place for festivals, kite flying, walking, relaxing with friends or simply finding a shady spot beneath a tree and doing absolutely nothing.

Beyond it all are the glistening waters of Lake Ontario, dotted with boats while birds move through the summer sky. In the distance, the Burlington Skyway rises above the horizon, creating an unmistakable backdrop to the waterfront.

Those individual layers come together in this illustration to create my idealized vision of a summer day in Burlington.

It’s not simply a picture of the waterfront. It’s my love letter to the place I call home.
