St. Thomas, Ontario – Railway City

Once one of Canada's most important railway hubs, St. Thomas, Ontario earned its nickname "The Railway City" for good reason. Since the city's first railway was completed in 1856, an incredible 26 railways have passed through St. Thomas.

The city's railway history also includes one of its most famous, and unusual, stories. On September 15, 1885, Jumbo the circus elephant was struck and killed by a locomotive in St. Thomas. A life-sized statue commemorating Jumbo was erected in the city in 1985 and remains one of its most recognizable landmarks.

About the Artwork

Growing up in St. Thomas wasn't always an easy journey, so creating a print of my hometown presented an interesting challenge: how could I capture the city in a way that felt both personal and unmistakably St. Thomas?

The answer was the railway.

Trains played such an important role in shaping the city that I wanted one to command the composition. Look a little closer and you'll also find nods to two other pieces of St. Thomas history: Jumbo the Elephant and the historic CASO Railway Station.

The finished illustration is my vintage-inspired tribute to the Railway City and the place where I grew up.

For collectors, a limited edition of just 15 signed and individually numbered prints is available in each size.

Each limited edition is printed on premium 300–320 gsm fine art paper, made from acid-free, 100% cotton rag with a beautiful matte finish.

Limited editions include a 2" white border and are personally signed and numbered with a certificate of authenticity.
