London, Ontario – Call The Office

For generations of music fans in London, Ontario, Call The Office was more than a music venue. It was an institution.

The legendary York Street club became a cornerstone of London's live music scene, particularly during the late '80s and '90s. Gritty, intimate and beautifully dingy, it was the kind of place where you could catch a band on the way up, often long before the rest of the world knew their name.

Over the years, Call The Office welcomed an incredible lineup of artists, including The Tragically Hip, The Tea Party, Blink-182, Queens of the Stone Age and Radiohead, who famously played the club in 1995 with tickets costing just $10.

About the Artwork

I wanted this illustration to capture the feeling of arriving at Call The Office for a show on a dark night in downtown London, when you never quite knew what you were about to experience inside.

The glowing marquee and entrance take centre stage, surrounded by the gritty character that made the club so memorable. Ghostly patrons wait outside, representing the generations of music fans who passed through those doors, while graffiti throughout the artwork pays tribute to some of the bands that went on to incredible success after playing the venue.

It's a nostalgic tribute to a place that was never particularly glamorous, and didn't need to be. Call The Office was about the music, the people and the experience.

For those who were lucky enough to see a favourite band there, this print is a little piece of London's music history.
