ABOUT THE DESIGN:
Toronto, Ontario Canada - The Fairmont Royal York first opened in June of 1929. Located in the southern part of Toronto's financial district it is considered one of Canada's grand railway hotels and was briefly the tallest building in Toronto at the time of completion.
This illustration focuses on the glamorous structure of one of Toronto's historic grand dames floating in a sea of modern architecture. The lush history contained within this steel frame encased in Indiana Limestone is palpable. The Chateauesque-style of this old beauty is still one of Toronto's grandest structures. Although the hotel has been modernized a brief visit to the current lobby makes clear, much of the 1930s charm has been preserved.
